In an article from the Washington Post, and republished through the NAHB, the author notes an interesting trend. The trend is for potential homebuyers to be more concerned with owning a more energy efficient home for longer, even if it means owning a smaller home.
Some of the nation’s largest builders are scaling back their offerings and changing the “upscale” options in the house. Out go the granite counter tops and in come the low VOC paints, efficient lighting, and efficient heating and cooling. Who knows, maybe one day these builders will take advantage of passive solar design.
