New Solar Projects Halted in Six Western States

The Federal Government has placed a moratorium on new solar projects using public land in six Western states so that an environmental assessment can be conducted to determine the impact of the large scale solar projects on the surrounding environment.

The moratorium does not affect the Pacific Northwest, but the results of the study could have a wide spread effect on the growth of the solar power industry.

The effect the proposed projects, which will cover more than one million acres of land and provide electricity for 20 million homes, on native wildlife and water use are two of the major issues of the study.
