Here’s where the energy from your photovoltaic system goes.
The first place it’s going to go into your home and be consumed by the loads in your home, much like your fridge or your freezer or your microwave or your TV–anything you are using in the middle of the day when you are producing energy.
If you produce more than what your home is going to be consuming, you are backfeeding that to the grid and building up credit with your utility. This is called net metering.
When you are purchasing energy throughout the daytime, you’ve got to remember that your home is still consuming the same amount of energy as before you got solar, but you are purchasing less because you are using energy during the daytime that your photovoltaic system is generating.
