At the end of each year we ask our employee owners and customers to name nonprofit organizations that make a difference in their neighborhoods and cities. Then we write some checks. A lot of them.
These donations are on top of the sponsorships to solar and clean energy organizations that we work shoulder to shoulder with during the year.
We always receive the best recommendations and stories! One of our employee owners donated to the small pet rescue where he adopted his dog earlier this year. A customer who has a stall at Pike Place Market asked us to donate to the market’s foundation. Another customer nominated their small town’s senior center.
We are happy to make these donations to groups that care for the elderly, help veterans, maintain hiking trails, stock the shelves of food banks, take care of pets, and provide activities and friendship to those who need it. They help people in small towns and big cities across Washington and Oregon.
Here is the list for 2019. Most organizations will receive a donation of between $100 – $600, and others will get a bit more.

This organization provides money to help cover childcare expenses for low-income families while one parent (generally only a single parent) goes to college to attain a 2-year or 4-year degree. The goal is for the family to qualify for higher paying jobs. Hopefully, this will provide families with more money which will help their child (children) perform better in school and lead to more success for future generations.
Grace Clinic
This is a free clinic in our community that provides medical, dental and mental health services. It is staffed primarily by volunteers and will provide 8,000 patient visits this year.

North Counties Family Services
We would like to suggest North County Family Services in Darrington, Washington, because they have helped the community and kids by providing assistance when needed. They were the organization that helped our community when the Oso landslide happened in 2014 by providing gas cards to those who had to drive around to still get to work. They also engage the kids in the area with outdoor activities through the Glacier Peak Institute. They sponsor National Night Out, senior trips for graduates, and so much more.

While the food portion is paid for by a government grant, they are solely supported by donations from seniors and other interested citizens. Keeping the power on, buying real butter (it is not covered under the grant program, only margarine), and building maintenance all falls on the generation that has already given our community so much.
Pacific Foundation for Blind Children
We have a 13-year-old grandson who is visually impaired who attends the Washington State School for the Blind in Vancouver. This is his third year there, and we have seen the great progress he has made due in large part to the programs provided by the Pacific Foundation.

Pasado’s Safe Haven
Pasado’s rescues animals of all sorts, from dogs to pigs to cows to chickens, sheep, goats, alpacas, donkeys, etc., who would otherwise die of abuse or neglect. Many were headed for the slaughterhouse when Pasado’s intervened.
Peoria Home
Peoria House helps women escape prostitution and sex trafficking. The organization provides housing free of charge for up to two years along with a structured recovery program including treatment for addiction, mental health counseling, medical and dental care, and other services specifically designed for these severely traumatized women. It is the only program of its kind in Snohomish County.
