Our Process Makes Going Solar Easy
1. Before You Sign
We assess your home, your energy goals, and your roof — and we’ll tell you honestly if solar isn’t the right fit. That’s the B Corp way. If it is, you’ll get a formal written proposal with time to review before signing anything.
2. Before Your Installation
We handle all the paperwork — permits, utility interconnection, and equipment ordering. Your project manager confirms your installation date a few weeks out.
3. During Your Installation
Your crew — a licensed electrician and at least two roof technicians — typically completes installation in two to three days. Before they arrive, clear the area in front of your electrical panel. When done, your lead installer walks you through your entire system so you know exactly how it works.
4. Activation and Beyond
After inspection and utility approval, your system goes live. Monitor production through your inverter app in real time. Our service team is here for the life of your system — and refer a neighbor in Washington or Oregon and you both receive up to $250 when their project completes.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does residential solar installation cost in Seattle or Portland?
Most residential solar systems in Washington and Oregon range from $20,000–$35,000 before incentives. Washington and Oregon both offer state and utility incentives that can significantly reduce your net cost. A&R Solar will model your specific production, incentives, and lifetime savings before you sign anything.
Who are the best residential solar installers in Seattle?
The best solar installers in the Seattle area combine local experience, in-house crews, and long-term service support. A&R Solar has been installing residential solar across King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Kitsap counties since March 2007 — 19 years. We’re employee-owned, B Corp certified, and use our own crews rather than subcontractors.
Who are the best solar installers in Portland?
In the Portland metro area, look for installers with established Oregon contractor licensing, local crews, and a service department that will still be around after installation. A&R Solar operates out of Tualatin and serves Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, and surrounding communities throughout the Willamette Valley.
How does net metering work in Washington and Oregon?
Solar is low maintenance — not no maintenance. We encourage you to monitor your system regularly through the provided monitoring app. Our dedicated service team is here to answer any questions you may have for the lifetime of your system
Will solar panels work during a power outage in the Northwest?
Grid-tied solar systems shut down automatically during outages to protect utility workers — so solar alone won’t keep your lights on. Pairing your system with a home battery like the Tesla Powerwall or Enphase IQ Battery keeps essentials running during outages and lets you use stored energy at night. A&R Solar installs both solar and battery storage across Washington and Oregon.
What is the timeline for residential solar installation?
After signing with A&R Solar, most residential installations complete within 6–12 weeks depending on permitting and utility interconnection timelines. We handle all permitting and utility paperwork for Washington and Oregon customers and keep you updated throughout the process.
How does solar perform in Seattle and Portland's cloudy climate?
Both cities get enough annual sunlight to make solar financially worthwhile — Seattle averages around 4 peak sun hours per day, and Portland is comparable. Systems are sized specifically for Northwest weather patterns. Net metering credits from summer production offset lower winter output, and monitoring tools let you track performance year-round.
