Our Process Makes Going Solar Easy

1. Before You Sign

We assess your home, your energy goals, and your roof — and we’ll tell you honestly if solar isn’t the right fit. That’s the B Corp way. If it is, you’ll get a formal written proposal with time to review before signing anything.

2. Before Your Installation

We handle all the paperwork — permits, utility interconnection, and equipment ordering. Your project manager confirms your installation date a few weeks out.

3. During Your Installation

Your crew — a licensed electrician and at least two roof technicians — typically completes installation in two to three days. Before they arrive, clear the area in front of your electrical panel. When done, your lead installer walks you through your entire system so you know exactly how it works.

4. Activation and Beyond

After inspection and utility approval, your system goes live. Monitor production through your inverter app in real time. Our service team is here for the life of your system — and refer a neighbor in Washington or Oregon and you both receive up to $250 when their project completes.

Celebrated by Customers

Our reputation comes from the homeowners and businesses we serve—and the peers who recognize our leadership in renewable energy across Washington and Oregon.

I contacted A&R Solar after another company failed to find and fixed a problem with my rooftop PV solar system. Not only did A&R quickly determine what the problem was, but was able to make repairs in a timely manner. I would not hesitate to refer A&R to anyone I know for any solar needs that they might have. The guys in the crews are very professional, experienced, efficient and friendly too. Sincerely!

The install team was very professional, polite and respectful. Their communication was excellent as the install progressed and when they needed access to the attic, it was planned accordingly. At the end of each day, they clean up all of their tools and disposed of all waste accordingly. Nothing but positive vibes from the crew.

My experience with A&R Solar ultimately earned five stars, not because everything went perfectly, but because of how they responded when something went wrong. I live in a condo in a connected building, with a common-element roof managed by the HOA. The solar layout needed to respect the boundary between my unit and the neighboring unit, but instead several panels and mounting points were installed over my neighbor’s unit. The original design had the property line in the wrong place; that was caught during permitting, and A&R produced corrected plans that were approved. Unfortunately, those corrected plans never made it into the installer’s workbook, so the crew arrived with the outdated layout and installed from the wrong version. I did not discover the mistake until about six weeks later, when my understandably very upset neighbor brought it up during an HOA meeting. I contacted A&R around 4:00 PM on a Tuesday. By 4:55 PM, they had confirmed what happened, accepted responsibility, and committed to fixing it. There was no defensiveness or effort to shift blame. Gene was extremely communicative throughout the process. He kept me informed, offered to speak directly with my affected neighbors, and I received zero pushback on anything I asked for regarding the repair work. A&R treated the issue as a priority. They rearranged other installation schedules so they could move the affected panels the following Monday, less than a week after I first contacted them. They also subcontracted a roofing company to repair the areas where mounting hardware had been installed and provided documentation and warranty coverage for that work. This was a significant and preventable mistake, and finding out about it six weeks later at an HOA meeting was not how I wanted to learn about it. But I think you learn much more about a contractor when something goes wrong than when everything goes according to plan. A&R took full ownership, prioritized the correction, communicated clearly, and followed through. Based on how they handled the situation, I would absolutely work with them again.

It's been the best 10 months since A&R Solar installed our system (panels and battery) on our home. Our electric bills have been minimal which is great, but the A&R team made the entire project simple, professional and on budget without any surprises.

We reached out to A&R Solar after Purelight Power went bankrupt and all their staff disappeared, breaching their contract with us to maintain warranted panels and equipment. Previously, Purelight had done a "repair" that actually broke one of our microinverters and left 4 panels offline, leading to significant power loss and a big increase in our electrical bill, so we were pretty desperate for help with undoing the damage Purelight had done. A&R fixed our broken microinverter, and when a part was super late they graciously comped us for it. Excellent work, prompt service, and professional and polite techs and workers across the board. We will absolutely be using them when we convert to a generator/battery model within the next few months. Highly recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does residential solar installation cost in Seattle or Portland?

Most residential solar systems in Washington and Oregon range from $21,000–$35,000 before incentives. Washington and Oregon both offer state and utility incentives that can significantly reduce your net cost. A&R Solar will model your specific production, incentives, and lifetime savings before you sign anything.

The best solar installers in the Seattle area combine local experience, in-house crews, and long-term service support. A&R Solar has been installing residential solar across King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Kitsap counties since March 2007 — 19 years. We’re employee-owned, B Corp certified, and use our own crews rather than subcontractors.

In the Portland metro area, look for installers with established Oregon contractor licensing, local crews, and a service department that will still be around after installation. A&R Solar operates out of Tualatin and serves Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, and surrounding communities throughout the Willamette Valley.

Solar is low maintenance — not no maintenance. We encourage you to monitor your system regularly through the provided monitoring app. Our dedicated service team is here to answer any questions you may have for the lifetime of your system

Grid-tied solar systems shut down automatically during outages to protect utility workers — so solar alone won’t keep your lights on. Pairing your system with a home battery like the Tesla Powerwall or Franklin Whole Home Battery keeps essentials running during outages and lets you use stored energy at night. A&R Solar installs both solar and battery storage across Washington and Oregon.

After signing with A&R Solar, most residential installations complete within 6–12 weeks depending on permitting and utility interconnection timelines. We handle all permitting and utility paperwork for Washington and Oregon customers and keep you updated throughout the process.

Both cities get enough annual sunlight to make solar financially worthwhile — Seattle averages around 4 peak sun hours per day, and Portland is comparable. Systems are sized specifically for Northwest weather patterns. Net metering credits from summer production offset lower winter output, and monitoring tools let you track performance year-round.
