Solar Panels Eugene Oregon
Solar panels in Oregon? It may seem counterintuitive, but installing solar in Eugene Oregon makes a lot of sense. For starters, Oregon receives more sun than Germany, the world’s leader in solar energy production. Not to mention, Oregon provides homeowners and businesses with attractive Oregon solar incentives both on a state and utility level. To top it off, the 30% federal solar tax credit has now been secured for the next 10 years, making solar installation more affordable than ever.
So, is solar worth it in Eugene Oregon? Yes, it is! Thanks to our long summer days, Oregon is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the sun’s immense power. In fact, a typical solar energy system in Eugene and Springfield will often produce more energy than a household consumes. This means you can stop leasing energy from the utility and start owning the energy produced by your solar panels.
What’s more, EWEB, EPUD, and Lane Electric provide grid-tied solar homes a way to store excess energy with a policy called net-metering. It works by providing homeowners with credits for extra electricity produced by their system. Those credits are then “banked” with your utility so that they can be used to pay for future energy bills. With Oregon’s long summer days, a typical Eugene and Springfield household will produce enough energy in the summer to pay for energy bills in the winter.
Our service area includes Eugene, Springfield, Veneta, Cottage Grove, Coburg, Creswell, Florence, and Junction City.
Don’t see your town? No worries–we service all of Oregon and Washington.
Oregon Solar Incentives
When considering installing solar panels in Eugene and Springfield, homeowners will have solar incentives at the federal, state, and local levels, making the cost of solar panel installation more affordable. To maximize your return on investment, consider the following solar incentives:
-
- Federal solar tax credit: Congress has extended and restored the federal solar tax credit to its full, original rate. This means that homeowners and businesses who install solar and/or battery backup systems between 2022-2032 will receive a 30% tax credit. A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar credit on the income tax you owe. Businesses can receive an additional 10% tax credit if they use American-made products and materials, and battery storage systems no longer need to be paired with solar to qualify for the credit.
-
- EWEB solar electric program: Residential solar customers can receive a solar incentive of $0.40/AC per output watt, with a maximum incentive of $2,500 per project, while business incentives for nonprofit, government or public is $0.50/AC per output watt, with a maximum incentive of $12,500.
-
- Lane Electric: A $0.50 per output watt rebate for approved residential solar photovoltaic systems with a maximum cap of $1,000, or a zero percent (0%) loan available for photovoltaic (PV) and/or solar water heating systems up to a maximum of $9,000 (OAC).
-
- Net metering: Net metering is a contract that you sign with your utility that allows you to trade your power with them at retail rates. Typically in Oregon, we produce vastly more energy than we consume during the summer and therefore build up big credits. Then during the less-sunny winter months, we use the accumulated credits to reduce electricity bills.
-
- Increased resale value: There is evidence that homes with solar sell faster and for more money than comparable homes without a solar energy system. A study out of California concluded that the premium for which solar homes sell is about the same as what the homeowner paid for the system in the first place. Zillow reported a 4.1% average lift in home appreciation on homes with solar over those without. In the meantime, you’re saving money on your electricity bill every month.

Cost of Solar Panels
The cost of solar panels depends on factors that are unique to each homeowner. Designing a system that meets your energy needs and your budget requires asking a few questions. Why are you interested in installing solar? Do you want to eliminate your electricity bill, save money, reduce your carbon footprint, or maybe increase the value of your home?
The cost of solar panel installation includes three main factors: construction characteristics of your house (roof material, height, steepness), solar equipment choices (economy, premium, or extra features), and where you live (permitting costs and available incentives).
