We often get calls from people looking to install solar energy on their homes themselves.
Sometimes we can help steer these people to the right resources, but more often than not we discourage this kind of activity. Why? Safety.
I just recently came across this French video on Youtube of an arc flash between PV modules. And arc flash can be upwards of 35,000 °F (19,400 °C). If you go to the 30 sec mark of the video you can see how the leads become welded together because of the extreme temperatures.
Please take care out there DIYers. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to pay for a pro’s expertise just this one time.
